Simon is the mascot of Children's Hospital, but he is more than a mascot. Simon is a prayer lion. As a tangible presence for children who are lonely, in distress, or continue to battle chronic illness or families who face what can often be heartbreaking spiritual challenges, Simon is a symbol of God's love and care. A colorful storybook details Simon's life.
Simon prayer bracelets can be purchased to remind others to pray for an ill child.
While we hope to provide a lion and storybook to every child admitted to our Hospital, children admitted through our Emergency Department and children in our Intensive Care Units will be the first to receive the lions. Simon, the Loving Lion ministry provides everyone an opportunity to help meet the spiritual needs of Children's Hospital patients and families throughout the year. We invite religious, civic and/or business organizations and affiliated groups to sponsor a child with prayers, along with a stuffed lion and a storybook that offers encouragement to that child.
Each sponsor is asked to contribute $19.95 for a child to underwrite the cost of the stuffed lion, the storybook and some of our operational expenses associated with this program. Your involvement in an active, ongoing prayer ministry includes receiving weekly lists of our patients' families who have requested special prayer needs.
Sponsorships are placed through our Pastoral Care program. As you choose, either the Simon lion(s) will be shipped to you for the prayers or blessings of your organization or our chaplains will bless them. Sponsor identity tags will be provided with the lion(s).
